The Best Fake Ads Of The Last 20 Years.
Including one of most moving ads—real or fake—ever created. It's Fake Ad Friday.
Commercial Directors/Copywriters/Art Directors always need more creative stuff for their reels. Unfortunately, very few clients have the guts to do creative stuff. Into this void comes spec work. Some of it very good spec work.
Dirt Devil
Perfectly hilarious. This is how you sell vacuum cleaning “power”. From 2011. Created by Phil Howells, Directed by Nate Camponi. Another Exorcist-themed Dirt Devil spot, directed by Andreas Roth, used the same “power” linchpin.
Xbox
From 2016. Created by Los Angeles filmmaker John Wikstrom, using a YouTube comment as inspiration. In fact, he used the exact words (below) as the voiceover for the commercial.
If you’re not moved, you’re fucking dead. A better gaming ad you will not find (though this 2002 Xbox spot and this 1999 Playstation spot are damn good). Microsoft eventually started promoting it on social media—even though, they would’ve never had the guts to approve it if it was presented to them. Know that.
Just for gits and shiggles, here’re two of my favorite all-time winners from the UK’s fake ad Chip Shop Awards.
That’s some good Fake.
A tad too real, maybe.
Also, there was this fake NSFW Skittles video from 2011:
Jittles? Directed by the L.A. team "Cousins."
Also, this fake Heineken ad created by some Dutch ad students. Trigger Warning: Suicide Scene.
Part of a “Fuck It” campaign that included this blowjob execution.
