Want To Be A Better Copywriter? Create Gut-Punch Ads.
Like a gut-punch, some of the best headlines are short, hard, and to-the point.
PRE-NOTE: Starting today, and for the next five Mondays, I’ll be re-publishing my hugely popular (OK, a little sarcasm) six-part series Want To Be A Better Copywriter? Again: these creative lessons are for paid subscribers only.
If you don’t know who Ed McCabe is, shame on you. He is an Ad Hall Of Fame CW who consistently wrote gut-punch ads; gut-punch ads that sold the product.
McCabe’s headlines were always as short as possible. No 10-dollar words. Yet they always hit perfectly.
McCabe wasn’t the only proponent of this style of copywriting, nor was he the first. But he was one of the best ever at it.
Below, I’ve collected a few of his ads, plus a few others created by other CWs in the same head. I’ve added background info and insights. Read and learn, creatives.
